We’ve joined the open letter alongside 25+ animal welfare organisations, rescues, local community groups and leaders, calling for an end to greyhound racing at Wentworth Park.
A huge community effort is underway to protect greyhounds and reclaim Wentworth Park for the public and the Animal Justice Party NSW is proud to be part of it.
This week, animal protection groups, local community groups, greyhound advocates, councillors and MPs launched an open letter calling on the NSW Government to end greyhound racing at Wentworth Park when the current lease expires in 2027.

Wentworth Park is Crown land meant for public benefit, yet it continues to be dominated by greyhound racing and gambling instead of serving the wider community. It could be a vibrant precinct supporting sport, recreation, green space, events and vital community services — something thousands could enjoy.
Instead, it remains tied to an industry built on animal cruelty and public gambling harm.
In 2024 alone, five greyhounds died on track at Wentworth Park and more than 390 were injured.*
So far in 2025, 13 dogs have died on NSW tracks and more than two dozen have died after suffering serious racing injuries. Over 3,400 injuries have already been recorded — the highest total in Australia.*
This suffering is ongoing, despite years of promised reform. It has no place in a modern city like Sydney.
Community groups believe this land could be so much more, a space for sport, recreation, green areas, community events and services that thousands of local people could enjoy. With the lease ending in 2027, locals want transparency, public input, and a future that puts community welfare ahead of racing and gambling interests.
