Global day of protest Against Adidas

On November 16th 2024, during our global protest, we united with kangaroo and wildlife advocates to demand that Adidas stop killing kangaroos for soccer boots and stop profiting from cruelty and slaughter.

In Australia, we held protests outside Adidas stores in Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns, Adelaide and took online actions in Western Australia and Tasmania.

Across the world, animal advocates stood side by side and spoke up for kangaroos in Germany, Washington, New York, Canada, Taipei and Japan.

Adidas claims to value innovation and sustainability, yet they remain part of one of the largest wildlife massacres on Earth. While companies like Nike and Puma have chosen to stop using kangaroo leather, Decathlon, the world’s largest sporting goods retailer has now joined the movement. Just this month, Decathlon announced they will end all use of kangaroo leather!

We will keep asking, Adidas, what are you waiting for? It’s time to cut ties with this barbaric trade and end your role in this cruelty.

We will not stand by while animals are slaughtered for profit.

We will keep up the fight until kangaroos can live free from fear and exploitation.

ADIDAS... STOP KILLING KANGAROOS!

#adidaskangaroomassacre

Last year, we united with kangaroo advocates worldwide for a global weekend of protest. From Portland to New York, Toronto to Melbourne, Adelaide and cities across Europe, kangaroo lovers took their message straight to ADIDAS: STOP KILLING KANGAROOS TO MAKE SHOES.

Now, we're taking action again with another global protest to keep the pressure up.

Mark your calendars for 16th November 2024 at 11am!

📢 More event details coming soon!

Kangaroos are the victims of the largest commercial slaughter of wildlife on the planet. This slaughter is being driven by companies like Adidas

Every night across Australia, kangaroos are brutally killed in the dark of the night, when they are most vulnerable and whilst Adidas make false claims on its website and in its media statements that killing kangaroos is humane, this is far from the truth.

Kangaroos are hunted, terrorised, maimed, and killed. Many are shot but escape, only to suffer from injuries that lead to a slow, painful death. We have witnessed kangaroos with broken jaws, unable to eat or drink on their own. Baby kangaroos are bashed against bull bars or left to die slowly and alone without their mothers, all for a pair of soccer/football boots. As one of the largest buyers of kangaroo skin, adidas is driving this killing.

OUR PROTESTS AGAINST NIKE WORKED.  SO WE WON'T BACK DOWN. WE WILL KEEP PUSHING UNTIL ADIDAS STOP.

As part of the 'Kangaroos are Not Shoes' campaign, the Animal Justice Party along with animal organisations across Australia and the world disrupted Nike's business by holding multiple protests outside their stores.

The World Is Changing But Adidas Is Lagging Behind

🌟 In March 2023, Nike and Puma stopped using kangaroo leather in their football boots.

🌟 In September 2023, New Balance joined them, cutting ties with the commercial kangaroo industry.

🌟 By April 2024, UK football brand Sokito also cut the use of kangaroo leather in their shoes.

Additionally, U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth and Cory Booker have introduced the Kangaroo Protection Act of 2024, a groundbreaking bill that would ban the import of kangaroo skins into the United States, making it clear that kangaroos deserve protection, not to be killed for shoes.

Adidas, it's time to change!

Using the body parts of a wild native animal to make shoes is not only obscene but completely unnecessary. Adidas is already using a wide range of synthetic materials, so there is absolutely no need for them to continue using kangaroo leather.

Each year, the commercial kangaroo industry kills 1.5 million kangaroos, primarily for their skins.

The commercial kangaroo industry thrives on secrecy and misinformation, profiting from the exploitation of our wildlife.

Kangaroos aren’t farmed, they’re shot in the wild, often leaving kangaroo families traumatised, torn apart and baby joeys left behind to suffer. Some joeys are bashed to death or left to die of starvation, all for Adidas to profit.

✊ Why Join the Global Protest? 📢

Joining the global protest is an opportunity to stand up for kangaroos and make your voice heard in the fight against cruelty and exploitation. By participating, you contribute to a united front of advocates from around the world who are demanding that Adidas stop using kangaroo leather in their products.

This protest is also about promoting compassion and raising awareness for animal rights. Your involvement helps spread the message that we value our animals and wildlife and want to protect them.

When we stand together, we have the power to bring this change for kangaroos. With other major sports brands already leading the way, our voices can create the pressure needed to make Adidas follow.
