Dear Supporters,
Thanks to you, compassion is rising in NSW and animals are being heard 🐾
|
|
Across NSW, our members, volunteers and candidates have been stepping up with heart, courage and determination, from standing strong at the federal election to building people-powered momentum in our local communities. Your efforts are helping build a kinder future and a powerful political force for animals.
Thanks to this growing collective of compassionate changemakers, animals had a voice on the ballot and in the streets and our message of justice and compassion reached thousands.
We’re also celebrating a major milestone, with Amanda Dorn elected as the first ever Animal Justice Party MP in WA! Alongside our NSW MP Emma Hurst and VIC MP Georgie Purcell, Amanda joins a growing team of passionate representatives working to transform politics for animals, people and the planet.
This is grassroots power in action.
Thank you for standing with us, and for being part of this growing, unstoppable political force for animals.
But while compassion is rising, many parts of the world, including here in NSW, remains unkind to animals. Greyhounds are still suffering in the racing industry. Hens are still confined to battery cages. Marine animals continue to die in shark nets that don’t even protect swimmers.
We still need you. Every voice, every action, every new member helps push back against cruelty and bring us closer to a future where animals are truly protected.
Join us and help build a better future for animals, people and the planet. 🐾🌏🌱

Emma Hurst MP: Parliament Update
|
|
Emma Hurst stands as our most steadfast and determined voice for animals in the New South Wales Parliament. When compassion walks into Parliament, everything changes.
With every speech, every motion, every reform, Emma is proving that animals are no longer a political afterthought. They are a force. A movement. A priority.
Emma doesn’t flinch in the face of cruelty or injustice. She holds power to account, lifts the lid on industries built on silence and fights with everything she has to give animals protection in the halls of power.
In one of Emma’s speeches in Parliament she said, “One day Parliament will have a genuine discussion about true interspecies justice, rather than ignoring the truth about humanity and kindness - to pretend that these animals do not suffer or feel pain is not a political position - it is cowardice.”
|
Emma’s update:
Legalised the joint burial of deceased companion animals and humans in cemeteries and crematoria in NSW
Emma passed an amendment to ensure humans can be buried alongside their deceased companion animals. Many people keep the ashes of their beloved companion animals and hope to be buried together some day. However, in both VIC and NSW, the legislation was silent on the issue - and many cemeteries were saying that it couldn't be done. We heard tragic stories, such as an elderly man being unable to bury his deceased dog alongside his wife’s grave in a public cemetery.
We’ve now clarified the law in NSW to ensure deceased animals can be buried with human remains - because families come in all shapes, sizes and species.
Fighting dangerous hunting laws
The Shooters Party has introduced a Bill to open up over 50,000 hectares of public land (meant for all of us to use) to be handed over to hunters to shoot at animals - and, shockingly, it looks like the Minns Labor Government is going to support it becoming law.
The Bill threatens public safety and will be an animal welfare nightmare. It would allow hunters to try to access prohibited weapons, such as silencers and even grenades, that are currently restricted for good reason - namely, to protect the public from potential mass shootings and firearm-related violence.
Emma published an opinion piece outlining the consequences of this dangerous Bill. You can help Emma fight against this - 📝 Take action here.
Cellular Agriculture event in NSW Parliament
Emma hosted an event in NSW Parliament with cellular agriculture startup ‘Magic Valley’ where politicians, including key Ministers and media, had the opportunity to be some of the first in the world to try meat that was grown in a lab - without the killing or harming of any animal!
The event was an enormous success, with 17 MPs and Ministers attending the exclusive tasting and learning about how cellular agriculture can reduce deforestation, reduce harmful climate emissions and stop the enormous animal cruelty we see in intensive animal agribusiness. This is the future of food, and Emma will continue to advocate for Government funding and investment in this critical space.

Motion passed calling for animal rescue funding
NSW is facing an animal rehoming crisis. Pounds and shelters are full, surrender lists are months or years long, and many animals are facing death row. Emma passed a notice of motion calling for much needed Government funding for animal rescue organisations in NSW who are taking in homeless animals, saving animals from death row, and finding them loving forever homes. The AJP previously secured $5 million for rescues – we are fighting to secure funding now on an ongoing yearly basis.
|
|
Exposing hidden baboon research facility
Emma passed a motion demanding the release of secret Government documents about a hidden Sydney facility that rents out baboons for medical experimentation. These documents will reveal the names, ages and uses of each primate, bringing long-hidden cruelty into the light. Watch this space!
|
|
|
Abuse and Harassment in Greyhound Racing Industry
Emma passed a call for papers into physical and sexual abuse, assault and harassment within the NSW greyhound racing industry – and it has already received major media coverage. The documents released paint a very distressing picture of the behaviour of many involved in this cruel industry. Emma is now calling on the Minister for Racing, David Harris, to establish an inquiry into physical and sexual abuse, assault and harassment within the greyhound racing industry.
Shock Collar Campaign
Shock collars send electric shocks through an animal’s neck – they’ve been illegal for decades – and for good reason. But now the NSW Government has announced that they plan to make them legal to use on cows. Together we must stop this before it starts!
📝 Sign Emma’s petition here to help her stop animal protection laws from reversing.

|
Passed motion on roadside zoos
Emma passed a call for papers that will require the NSW Government to produce confidential documents regarding complaints, investigations and disciplinary action taken against NSW roadside zoos and petting zoos. We are currently waiting for these documents to be produced.

Animal Law Book Chapter published
Emma (along with her Chief of Staff, Tess Vickery) published a chapter in the textbook ‘Animals in Australasia: A Quiet Crisis’, where they outline how they’ve worked to secure wins for animals in NSW Parliament. If you've ever wondered what happens behind the scenes in achieving political change for animals, or if you have a broader interest in animal law, then this is the read for you.

Cat Management Inquiry
Emma chaired a further hearing of the NSW Cat Inquiry, continuing her work to find evidence-based, humane solutions that protect both cats and native wildlife.
Shark Nets Awareness in Parliament
Emma partnered with Humane World for Animals Australia to hold an event in Parliament, educating MPs on why shark nets don’t work and the need for modern, non-lethal alternatives to protect both swimmers and marine life.
Women’s Health Wins
After Emma exposed in the media that NSW was the only state not funding endometriosis education, she passed a motion calling on the Government to fund endometriosis education in public schools. Emma also passed a motion calling on the NSW Government to fund the recommendations of her groundbreaking Birth Trauma Inquiry, specifically in respect to training for maternity care practitioners on trauma-informed care, informed consent, and supporting parents’ birthing choices.
Child Abuse Prevention Motion
Emma worked with animal and child safety advocate Emma Hakansson to pass a motion calling on the NSW Government to implement mandatory child abuse prevention training for all people holding Working With Children Checks. Compassion and protection must extend to all vulnerable beings.
|
Thanks to Emma’s work, animals have a stronger voice in Parliament. And with you, this voice grows louder and more powerful every day.
Join us to help create a future where no animal’s suffering is ignored.

2025 Federal Election
Thank you for standing up for animals at the Federal Election
|
|
A huge thank you to every single one of you who helped bring our message of compassion to the ballot box this federal election. Taking actions such as handing out how-to-votes, coordinating booths, talking to voters, donating, or simply cheering us on — you gave a voice to animals in such a loud landscape where cruelty and exploitation is at every corner.
Elections are the biggest efforts for our party. Unlike the major parties, we don’t have corporate backers or giant ad budgets.
BUT, what we do have is heart and YOU. Every flyer delivered to mailboxes, every conversation had and every shift covered helped build the political power animals need in this world.
|
|
To our courageous candidates, a massive thank you!! You put animal protection on the agenda and showed voters that there is a better way forward.
Special thanks to our lead Senate candidate Emma Kerin, who led with clarity and strength and to fellow Senate candidate Matt Stellino for standing strong for animals on the federal stage. Our heartfelt thanks also go to our lower house champions Vanessa Blazi (Lindsay), Rohan Laxmanalal (Chifley), Patrick Murphy (Dobell), Victoria Davies (Hunter), and Tim Lavers (Cunningham) — your compassion and courage gave animals a voice in this election.
This campaign was powered by volunteers. 💪 And while we didn’t achieve the outcome we’d hoped for this time, we showed that people do care about animals and they want them represented in politics.

Free Hens From Battery Cages
Right now, millions of hens in NSW are trapped in tiny battery cages — denied the simple freedom to walk, stretch or even turn around. After 18 months of suffering, they’re gassed or sent to slaughter.
In 2023, all states agreed to end battery cages — but NSW has yet to set a date in law. As the largest producer of caged eggs in Australia, NSW’s failure to act could unravel progress nationwide.
We’re calling on Premier Chris Minns and Minister Tara Moriarty to legislate a rapid phase-out.
It’s time to free hens in NSW.
|
Email Your MP - Stop the Hunt
Don’t Let Hunters Take Over Public Land
A new bill in NSW would hand 50,000 hectares of public land to recreational shooters — putting animals, bushwalkers and families in danger.
It legalises silencers, introduces cruel bounties and proposes a Minister for Hunting.
This isn’t conservation. It’s cruelty — and Premier Chris Minns is backing it.
Speak out now. Tell them to stop this dangerous bill.

AJP in Action
In the lead-up to the recent federal election, our incredible members and supporters were busy across NSW, organising market and outreach events, letterboxing and connecting with communities to grow awareness for animals and the Animal Justice Party.
|
|
Markets, Stalls & BBQs
From the Camden Show and Port Macquarie Foreshore Markets to the Laurieton Riverwalk and Glen Innes and New England pop-up stalls, our regional teams hosted vibrant AJP stalls that drew plenty of attention. These community events gave us the perfect platform to spark conversations about animal protection, share our policies and welcome new members into the party. Delicious vegan BBQs at Mangrove Mountain Market and other local gatherings also gave people a taste of a kinder lifestyle.
|
|
Meet the Candidate Events
Face-to-face conversations matter, and our “Meet Your Candidate” sessions across Hunter, Glen Innes, and Penrith gave local voters a chance to hear from our inspiring candidates: Victoria Davies, Emma Kerin, Vanessa Blazi and Patrick Murphy, about their commitment to creating a better world for animals, people and the planet. These informal events, including a relaxed park picnic and a vegan BBQ meet and greet, helped build trust and deepen community connection in key electorates.
|
|
To everyone who volunteered, attended, or supported these efforts, THANK YOU!
You helped give animals a voice when it mattered most. ❤️

The group spent the day cuddling alpacas, donkeys and goats and meeting the many beautiful souls who’ve been rescued from cruelty, neglect and harm.

Paws in the Park Camden 🐶🌞
|
Our Sydney South West Members had an awesome day at Paws in the Park Camden!
It was a beautiful day to be out in the community, chatting with locals and representing animals who need a voice, our much-loved companion animals, but also all the others like them who deserve protection and kindness too.
We had heaps of people stop by to say they voted for us - Thank you! We loved meeting some new faces as well. We handed out loads of brochures, had some great convos, sold a few T-shirts, caps and cute pins to help keep our work going!
Thanks to everyone who came over for a chat and showed their support!

Volunteering at Moo To Ewe 🐄🐑
|
|
Last month, our Young AJP crew headed to Moo To Ewe Farmed Animal Sanctuary for a volunteering day filled with sunshine, smiles and shared purpose.
They started with a heartwarming tour of the sanctuary, meeting the animals and treating them to some well-deserved snacks. From curious goats and gentle cows to playful pigs, friendly sheep, and cheeky chickens and ducks — it was a joy for everyone involved.
After enjoying a delicious vegan catered lunch, the team rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into some hands-on work! They helped with weeding, spruced up the duck and goose enclosures, and replaced bedding for the sheep and goats — all to help make the animals’ home just a little more comfortable and cosy.
The day was a beautiful reminder of what it means to be part of Young AJP — joining forces, taking action, and making a real-world difference for animals.
