This month we made one of our biggest announcements yet. We have officially launched our campaign for the 2027 NSW State Election, bringing our community together to fight harder than ever for the animals who have no vote and no voice of their own.
The work is already underway, but we can't do this without more hands on deck. Volunteers are stepping up and putting their skills to use across a range of roles, and we need many more to join them if this campaign is going to be the strongest we've ever run. Our MP Emma Hurst continues to lead that fight, and her dedication has delivered HUGE wins for animals. We need her to stay in Parliament to keep going. But one voice isn't enough. Every animal still waiting for change needs more than a single seat fighting for them, so we also need more candidates standing alongside her as we grow our power in NSW Parliament.
Come along to listen and find out what's being planned, take some flyers home for letterboxing in your area or discover how you could step into a working role and become a voice for animals alongside Emma. As a minor party, every contribution matters, so this year tickets work differently, a donation of any amount secures your place.

Parramatta Council votes to go fur free!
Parramatta Councillors unanimously voted to ban the sale of animal fur on council land, becoming the ninth NSW council to go fur free. It's a huge win, and it comes only months after we relaunched our Ban Fur Working Group earlier this year, this is the third council win since then, following Northern Beaches in May and Lane Cove in July.

Our local Animal Justice Party member Janet spoke in support during the Public Forum, helping make the case for why this issue matters. A huge thank you to Janet for her dedication and hard work on this campaign.
Wins like this don't happen without sustained pressure, and it's a powerful sign of what's possible when our community keeps showing up. Every council that bans fur strengthens the case for Emma Hurst's push for a state-wide ban in NSW Parliament.

Young Animal Justice Party celebrates International Youth Day: To mark International Youth Day on 12 August, our Young AJP (YAJP) Committee shared what being young and politically active means to them.
Luka, YAJP Chair, said: "Being a part of the YAJP has shown me just how powerful young people can be when we unite to fight for what we believe in."
Jess, YAJP Events Coordinator, said: "The Young AJP provides an unmistakable voice for young people in the Australian political system."
Joel, YAJP Committee Support Member, said: "Young AJP has been an awesome, safe space to connect with people who not only care, but are actively working towards creating some of the most important systemic changes against oppression in history."
Alex, YAJP Committee Support Member, said: "Volunteering with the YAJP provides me with experience and connections while studying politics at university, helps me meet like-minded young people, and, most importantly, allows me to play my part in creating meaningful change."

The Animal Justice Party NSW state office celebrated National Dog Day: Meet the dogs behind the AJP NSW team and find out what they would do if these pups were elected as AJP MPs!
Our staff members spend their days standing up for animals, and these four-legged companions are a big part of the reason why. Charlie, Shiva, Burrito, and Lance each have their own unique rescue and adoption stories of how they came to join the lives of our AJP staff.
They’re couch companions, walking buddies, office supervisors and constant reminders of why the work we do matters to all animals.

The Animal Justice Party 2026 National Conference will bring together change-makers from across Australia and beyond, spanning law, politics, science, welfare, and activism, for our most powerful event yet.
Joining us all in person in Sydney are three Animal Justice Party MPs from across the country. Emma Hurst (NSW), Georgie Purcell (Victoria) and Amanda Dorn (WA) will be speaking together about the work they're doing in their respective parliaments.

Alongside Animal Justice Party MPs, we welcome Moby, Dr Kate, Peter Singer, Tess Vickery, Shatha Hamade, Captain Paul Watson, Clare Mann, Rachel Smith, Paul Bevan and Dr Kevin Coleman to the 2026 lineup, with animal protection organisations Animals Australia, Australian Alliance for Animals and FOUR PAWS joining them.

Stop the Brumby Cull Rally

Thank you to everyone who joined us at rallies across NSW to stand up for brumbies. Our voices united to call for humane, science-based management instead of the cruel aerial culling in Kosciuszko National Park.
|
Our MP Emma Hurst has pushed back on the NSW Government's claims that the Kosciuszko brumby cull is quick and painless, citing the fear, stress, and helicopter pursuit documented in the Upper House inquiry. She renewed her call for cameras on the culling helicopters, asking "why has it refused calls to put cameras on the helicopters and let the public see the evidence for themselves?"

The Animal Justice Party NSW remains vehemently opposed to this slaughter, based as it is on questionable data and carried out despite proven non-lethal alternatives.

It was stunning weather for our Newcastle-Hunter regional group at the bay. Thank you to everyone who dropped by our stall on the Warners Bay foreshore for a sunny day of conversations with Lake Macquarie animal lovers, and plenty of cute dogs.
Iris, the rescued greyhound mascot, worked hard soaking up pats and needed a well earned break. Thank you also to Dan from our Central Coast regional group for coming along to help out.
The group can’t wait to hold another stall and would love others to join them next time!

Balgowlah Street Paws Festival

Our Northern Beaches regional group held a stall at the Balgowlah Street Paws Festival, spending the day chatting with fellow dog lovers, meeting new supporters and plenty of adorable fur friends. It was lovely sharing how we can create a kinder future for animals. A massive thank you to our wonderful volunteers who gave up their time to help out at the stall, we couldn't do it without you.

We had a wonderful weekend at Dog Lovers, meeting pups and their humans and talking about the AJP's work to strengthen protections for dogs and all animals. Volunteers handed out free dog biscuits, welcomed new members, sold merchandise, and invited visitors to enter our survey for a chance to win a prize pack of natural, cruelty-free products.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by, showed their support, and made the weekend a success.

Sentient Screening with Emma Hurst

Our Newcastle-Hunter Regional Group hosted an afternoon with our MP Emma Hurst ahead of a special Newcastle preview screening of the documentary Sentient at Tower Cinemas. Members joined Emma for a conversation about the fight for animals in NSW Parliament, including her advocacy to end animal experimentation. Emma then introduced the preview screening of Sentient, directed by Tony Jones, which follows primatologist turned animal welfare advocate Dr Lisa Jones-Engel as she examines the ethics of animal experimentation.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the conversation and the screening. Emma has been a strong voice for ending animal experimentation in NSW Parliament, and she isn't stopping. We won't stop either, not until every animal in a lab is free.

Email Liberal MPs on the Brumby cull
Federal Liberal leader Angus Taylor has spoken out against the aerial shooting of brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park, yet NSW Liberal MPs have voted consistently to keep killing them. If NSW Liberal MPs change their position to match their leader, we may have the numbers in the Upper House to stop further cruelty.
Horses are being shot and left to suffer with severe wounds. Pregnant mares are being killed. Foals are being orphaned and left to die. Aerial shooting does not provide a long-term solution. Immunocontraception has been used successfully to manage wild horse populations in similar terrain overseas. It is humane, effective and scientifically proven, yet remains ignored in favour of killing programs.
👉 Email your local Liberal MP now and ask them to publicly commit to ending the killing of brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park, and to support humane, science-based alternatives.
