Animal Justice Party Announce NSW Upper House Candidates

The Animal Justice Party (AJP) is pleased to announce that psychologist, vegan, and goldmedal winning bodybuilder Emma Hurst, will be leading the party’s 2019 Upper House ticket along with Angela Pollard who is a lawyer and the current senior advisor to AJP MP Mark Pearson.

Emma Hurst, who has worked in animal advocacy for over 10 years, said “Millions of animals in this country are still being caged, used and abused for profit.

“At a time when animal-use industries are so powerful, it is more important than ever those animals have a voice in politics.

“Australians love animals, and want to see an end to cruelty. I believe we can make that change.

“Our goal is to prevent the exploitation of animals and environmental destruction by changing the law. We plan to stop factory farming, live export, companion and domestic animal abuse, and the exploitation of animals for sport and entertainment.”

Number two Upper House Candidate Angela Pollard said “I’ve worked in a multitude of settings – from helping victims of crime to LGBTIQ and trade union activism, patterns of abuse exist everywhere, but I’ve decided to dedicate my time to helping animals – as they are truly the only victims who cannot speak for themselves.

“We will lobby for tougher animal protection laws and increased penalties for convicted animal abusers. We will fight for better regulations around the trade of companion animals. We will advocate for better education and awareness for the treatment of animals.”

In 2015 the Animal Justice Party took state Parliament by surprise when their candidate Mark Pearson was elected by the people of NSW. The political party are now hopeful in gaining at least two more seats in the 2019 election.
