Dear Supporters,
Change for animals does not happen unless we fight for it. Every day, they face cruelty, exploitation, confinement, habitat loss and political indifference.
At the start of the month we had World Wildlife Day, a reminder that animals all around us are fighting for survival in forests, rivers, bushland and backyards. They are up against land clearing, climate impacts, cruel poisons and a government that treats them as problems to be managed, not lives to be protected.
That is why we are preparing now for the 2027 NSW State Election. We are strengthening campaigns, refining strategy and building the foundations that will carry us through.
With Emma Hurst in the NSW Parliament, animals are fought for. They are defended. Industries are scrutinised. Other parties are forced to answer hard questions.
Without us, decisions are made for them, so often disregarding their dignity or their lives, ignoring their suffering, destroying their homes and habitats without a thought.
With us, all animals are placed firmly on the political agenda. It is our MP Emma Hurst who has spoken up for so many who need a voice the most, exposed cruelty, challenged weak laws and pushed for independent oversight of animal protection.

Animals need you with us 🐾
Now is the time to show the government that animals matter to the people of NSW. Your membership does exactly that. The more members we have, the louder our collective voice and the greater our political power to change laws, shift policy and make the world a better place for animals.
Now is the time to speak up. Now is the time to stand with us.
Because when we rise, animals stop being an afterthought and become a priority.

Progress for animals in NSW!
Thanks to our MP Emma Hurst, cruel SGAR poisons have been recommended for a full ban by the regulator. A BIG win for animals!
These are the poisons that cause animals to bleed internally over a period of days. Not just rats but also owls, possums, quolls, wedge-tailed eagles and even family pets have suffered slow, agonising deaths because of products like this.
Emma worked directly with Amazon to end all sales of SGARs on their platform, which helped push for broader action. BirdLife Australia has also been instrumental in fighting to protect wildlife from these poisons and we thank them for helping lead the way.
We are now waiting on the Federal Department to sign off on the recommendation to make it a full ban. New restrictions are already in place in the meantime.
We want protection for all animals and being a member makes that difference, makes these changes and helps us achieve more for animals.
We are fighting to stop dangerous poisons killing our wildlife.
The SGAR ban is a huge step forward, now help us do the same for 1080.
📝 Sign the petition to Ban Killer 1080 Poison
Once you have signed, you will find local council petitions and a campaign toolkit on the same page, everything you need to take the fight to your own community. (One of those toolkits already helped win a ban in Campbelltown.)

AJP Community in Action 🌱
On 1 March, Animal Justice Party regional groups across New South Wales headed out into their local communities for Clean Up Australia Day, collecting bags of plastic, glass, cigarette butts and rubbish at all stages of decomposition.
The rain held off for some groups, while others had to reschedule their clean-ups for another day. But that's the beauty of this kind of action. Clean-ups aren't something we can only do once a year. We can do them any time, around our homes, schools, shops and communities.
Every piece of rubbish picked up could save an animal from ingesting it or getting tangled in it. Along shorelines and waterways, volunteers found many tiny plastic fragments, the kind that break down small enough to be swallowed by fish and birdlife. It showed just how much waste ends up in the places our wildlife depends on.
Thank you to all our regional groups for organising these clean-ups, and to every member and supporter who joined in to help make our shared spaces cleaner and safer for animals and communities alike.
Next time you're at the park, the beach or by the lake, take a bag and do a quick sweep of the area. You might be surprised by how much you find, but you'll leave that space better than you found it.

We had a blast at the Alive Festival
A massive thank you to everyone who volunteered at the Animal Justice Party stall at the Alive Plant Based Festival. Our volunteers spent the day chatting with attendees, sharing information about our work, and showing what grassroots advocacy for animals looks like in action.
As you can tell from the photos, they were so busy talking they barely had time to look at the camera!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to ask questions, learn more, or sign up to get involved. And a big welcome to our newest AJP members. We're so glad to have you with us!
It was a fantastic day and a reminder of how strong this community is.
Check out our Inner West crew! They had a fantastic night out at Mama B's at the start of the month. There was no shortage of great conversation, laughs and ideas about how to do more for animals.
If you couldn't make it this time, we'd love to see you at the next one. Head to the post linked above and send us a DM, or email us, and we'll add you to the regional group chat so you can stay in the loop about upcoming meet-ups, actions and ways to get involved.

Golden Slipper Protest at Rosehill
On Saturday 21 March, we stood outside Rosehill Gardens Racecourse alongside animal advocate organisations, groups and supporters to be a voice for the two-year-old horses forced to race on Golden Slipper day.
The energy on the day was powerful and your voices carried far through the streets. You are helping bring us closer to a world where horses are protected, not exploited.
Together, we'll keep fighting for an end to horse racing.
There is so much more happening across NSW. Our Port Macquarie group held another beautiful sanctuary visit to Dook Nook Animal Sanctuary in Elands, and members from Newcastle/Hunter joined the March for Forests standing up for native wildlife and habitat protection.
Follow our social pages to stay up to date with everything happening across the state. Each regional group has their own Facebook page so you can keep up with what's happening near you.
As a member, you can join a regional group near you. Groups across NSW are doing incredible work for animals, from local campaigns and events to social catch-ups where members connect, share ideas and support each other in their advocacy.
It's a welcoming community and there is always something to get involved in.

WALES AND SCOTLAND VOTE TO BAN GREYHOUND RACING 🎉
This month, both Wales and Scotland voted to ban greyhound racing for good. Around the world, this industry is being shut down.
And yet here in NSW, greyhounds are still being injured and killed on tracks propped up by millions in taxpayer money. In 2016, NSW legislated a ban. It was reversed under political pressure and the industry was given one more chance. That was nearly ten years ago. Nothing has changed.
It's time to bring back the ban and make it permanent.

Keep Emma in NSW Parliament Fighting for Animals
The NSW State Election in March 2027 is fast approaching - and the work to protect animals and get Emma re-elected starts now. Thanks to your support, Emma Hurst has already achieved major wins for animals in Parliament, including stronger cruelty laws, a ban on forced swim and smoking tests, and she continues to hold powerful animal‑exploiting industries to account.
With your help, Emma can keep driving this progress and ensure animals remain firmly on the political agenda.
Your donation today helps power the movement she leads, and builds the foundation for the victory animals so desperately need - and that is getting Emma re-elected for another 8 years.
If you are not able to donate, you can still help by becoming a member, volunteering, sharing our campaigns or encouraging others to join. Contact [email protected] to get involved.
Thank you for standing with animals and helping us build the power needed to protect them.

Meet our Cover Star! ⭐🦇
The grey-headed flying fox, one of Australia's largest bats. If you have ever looked up at dusk and seen them streaming across the sky, you have witnessed one of nature's most spectacular commutes. While most of us are winding down for the night, they are heading out to work, pollinating native trees and spreading up to 60,000 seeds, travelling up to 50 kilometres before sunrise.
Ever wonder how they hang upside down while sleeping? They have a special locking mechanism in their legs that holds them in place without using any energy at all. When it is time to fly? They simply unlock and drop.
And here is one more for the dinner table. Grey-headed flying foxes have over 30 different calls, each one linked to a specific behaviour. From finding their babies to squabbling over food, they have a lot to say!
