Free Battery Cage Hens

Across Australia, up to 12 million ‘battery’ hens are imprisoned in small cages to provide consumers with “cheap eggs”. The majority of these tortured birds are found right here in New South Wales.

LEARN THE FACTS ABOUT BATTERY CAGE HENS

These hens barely have room to stretch their wings and are unable to act on their natural instincts and behaviours including wing flapping, grooming, preening, foraging and dust bathing. They face a lifetime of broken bones, osteoporosis, stress and frustration.

But the Animal Justice Party NSW has a plan to set them free.

Our MP Emma Hurst recently chaired a Parliamentary Inquiry into battery cage hens here in New South Wales. She has committed to bringing transparency to the animal agribusiness industry, and showing people across New South Wales what really goes on behind closed doors.

But despite over 14,000 submissions from a concerned public, NSW Labor has sided with the cruel egg industry - refusing to support an enforceable time-based phase out of all cages at a state or national level AND supporting the industry's desire to lie to consumers.

That's why we are taking action. We want the battery cage egg industry phased out by 2025, and we’re prepared to fight for the legislation to do it.

If you want to go a step further, the best way to get your interests represented in NSW Parliament is to meet with your local MP and ask them to commit to ending battery cage hen cruelty in our state.

Together with our members and volunteers, we are going to end the prison sentence of millions of hens across Australia and here in NSW. It is time to end the cruel battery cage industry and give these hens the freedom they deserve.
