Don’t Let Hunters Turn Public Land Into Killing Fields

A dangerous new bill has been introduced in NSW that would hand over 50,000 hectares of public land to recreational shooters — putting countless animals at risk of suffering and death.

The Game and Feral Animal Control Amendment (Conservation Hunting) Bill 2025, introduced by the Shooters Party, is a direct attack on animals and the environment.

The NSW Government is considering:

  • Expanding access to public land for hunters, putting animals, bushwalkers and families at risk;

  • Legalising the use of silencers, making it harder to hear gunshots - creating a human safety risk, and increasing the chance of prolonged suffering for animals;

  • Creating a new Minister for Hunting and Fishing — elevating recreational killing to a government-endorsed priority;

  • Enabling archaic bounties that reward people for killing animals — a practice long discredited as ineffective and inhumane.

This is not conservation — it's cruelty.

Animals like dogs, cats, pigs, goats, camels and rabbits will suffer slow, painful deaths. Orphaned babies will be left to starve. And native wildlife or even companion animals could be caught in the crossfire.

Worse still — Premier Chris Minns has spoken in support of a bounty system, encouraging hunters to kill more animals for cash. All of this, at a time when communities are struggling through a cost-of-living crisis, housing shortages, and delays to the promised Great Koala National Park.
