The footage we exposed of the alleged cruelty taking place in Cobbitty, NSW is unimaginable. We’ve heard reports that people cut out a sheep’s heart while she was still alive, terrified and trying to escape. Any person wanting to cause this sort of pain and suffering to an animal shows a worrying psychological state and is a danger to other animals, and the entire community.
If the accused are found guilty, we don’t want this to become another case of lenient sentencing that will do nothing to deter further acts of extreme animal mistreatment. Research shows a strong link between animal and human abuse, yet those convicted of animal cruelty in Australia often get nothing more than slap on the wrist.
Over the past 5 years 614 people were convicted of animal cruelty yet only 27 received any jail time that means – that means less than 5% were incarcerated for their crimes.
This needs to change. Australians hate animal cruelty, and we need to have a no tolerance stance against those that intentionally hurt animals.
Today we need to show how many us of are fighting for this change- sign and share our petition and take a stand against weak sentencing for all animal abuse cases.
