I’m Angela Pollard and I am the lead Senate candidate for the Animal Justice Party. After a career working in social justice legal services protecting the rights of vulnerable people, I decided to put my legal and advocacy skills to work for animals. For the last ten years I have used those skills to fight for an end to animal suffering and exploitation.
I have campaigned against live export, puppy farms, animal circuses, rodeos, horse racing and run legal information sessions on the lawful but cruel practices in animal industries. The Indonesian live cattle export scandal and the failure of the Gillard Labor government to introduce a permanent ban on live export made me decide that politics was where change was most needed.
I joined the AJP and was part of the team that helped to elect our first MP, Mark Pearson. I have worked with Mark Pearson for the last 4 years as his senior advisor, helping to draft his speeches, questions to Ministers and Bills for animal protection.
I have been a resident of the Northern Rivers for more than 25 years and live with my partner Darlene on a twenty-acre hobby farm. We grow our own fruit, nuts and vegetables as well as replanting rainforest habitat for native animals.
I am very excited about entering the political fray as the AJP’s lead Senate candidate and if elected, I will work unstintingly to change the world for animals. The Animal Justice Party’s values sit right with me; Kindness, Equality, Rationality and Non-Violence.
